The Outlook autocomplete entries are stored in a file with an .NK2 extension.
The location of this file depends on your Operating System.
For Windows XP:
The Outlook autocomplete file can be found at
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook,
The file will be named the same as the default Outlook profile.
For Outlook 2003, this is usually Default.nk2.
For Outlook 2007, this is usually Outlook.nk2.
Note Depending on your file settings, this folder might be hidden. To view the files and folder, do the following:
Click Start, and then click My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Click the View tab, and then, under Advanced settings, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
For Windows Vista / Windows 7:
The Outlook autocomplete file can be found at
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook,
The file will be named the same as the default Outlook profile with .NK2 for the extension.
For Outlook 2003, this is usually Default.nk2.
For Outlook 2007, this is usually Outlook.nk2.
For Windows 8
To import .nk2 files into Outlook 2013, follow these steps:
- Make sure that the .nk2 file is in the following folder:
%appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook
Note The .nk2 file must have the same name as your current Outlook 2013 profile. By default, the profile name is "Outlook." To check the profile name, follow these steps:

- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Mail.
- In the Mail Setup dialog box, click Show Profiles.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type outlook.exe /importnk2, and then click OK. This should import the .nk2 file into the Outlook 2013 profile.Note After you import the .nk2 file, the contents of the file are merged into the existing nickname cache that is currently stored in your mailbox.
Note The .nk2 file is renamed with a .old file name extension on the first start of Outlook 2013. Therefore, if you try to re-import the .nk2 file, remove the .old file name extension.
